The Seas of Change

The past year has been pretty amazing here at Ocean Air Sea Kayak. Most notably we have a new addition to the Ocean Air family. Evander was born in August of 2008. The fall paddling season was very busy with the business and the new baby, thankfully winter arrived and things slowed down a bit.

As the 2009 paddling season approached I found myself at a crossroads. I could either split my time between Ocean Air and Evander, or take this time while Evander is young to be a stay-at-home parent. At one point I thought it was going to be a difficult decision to make, in reality it was very easy. The hard part was coming to terms with taking a sabbatical from Ocean Air Sea Kayak, and suspending operations for a year (possibly more).

One of my goals is to remain an active part in the sea kayaking community and I am working on ideas to make that happen.

Here are some sea kayaking recommendations…

Tours

Coastal Expeditions– Folly Beach – They have been around since 1992 so they must be doing something right.

Sea Kayak Carolina– Folly Beach – They don’t have 2 person kayaks so if you have young children, or don’t want to paddle alone I would recommend Coastal Expeditions.

Instruction

If you are in the Charleston area and want instruction give the folks at Sea Kayak Carolina a call. Their offering of classes is always expanding. Congratulation to Scott on becoming an American Canoe Association Sea Kayak Level 3 Instructor Trainer!!

If you are a little further south, or want to try something different, I recommend Sea Kayak Georgia and Savannah Canoe and Kayak.
